The Greenview Reunion Foundation was organized in 2003 by current and former residents who are committed to giving back to their community. The Greenview Community is located in North Columbia and was a planned community formed in 1948 for African American Veterans returning from World War II. It was created as a result of provisions
The Greenview Reunion Foundation was organized in 2003 by current and former residents who are committed to giving back to their community. The Greenview Community is located in North Columbia and was a planned community formed in 1948 for African American Veterans returning from World War II. It was created as a result of provisions of the G.I. Bill or the "Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944". This act of the United States Congress also provided for college or educational training for returning World War II Veterans and provided loans for buying homes and starting businesses.
The purpose of the foundation is to award academic scholarships through the Carolyn Wood-Ellison Scholarship Fund to qualifying high school seniors and to sponsor and provide service to enhance the betterment of the community through community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.
